THIS IS / IRAQ, 2014
reading room;
4 books, tables, poster, frames, passepartouts
variable dimensions

In 1974 the Canadian sociologist Erving Goffman published the book Frame Analysis - An Essay on the Organization of Experience in which he analyzed how people understand situations and activities.
Since then framing theory and frame analysis has been used in studies of communication, mass media, politics or psychology.

The focal point of the installation are the four books. Two of them show all the image results when Plöger chose the search word "Iraq", the other two books compile all the images that occurred when Plöger translated the same searching term into Classical Arabic. The difference of these two compilations attracts interest and points to the question how reality is framed in mass media.
