INMATES, 2004-06
10 projections (super8, looped), speed: 3 images per second;
variable dimensions

At the basis of the film installation lies the attempt to transform the index of the photograph into a filmic sequence. To achieve this 10 photographs of inmates have been enlarged making it possible to reproduce the grain of the images with a marker and transparent sheets of paper. From each image between 20 and 50 copies have been produced by hand. These images were transferred on super8 film by single shots.
The mistakes and inaccuracies of the process create certain movements or jumps within the projected images and thus create the impression of an animated depiction of the still.
